Sheer Stupidity

If you watched the news at all this weekend then you are aware of the riots that occured in Toledo. Neo-Nazi's decided to do a march i order to procliam thier message of white supremacy, which according to the consitution they have the right to free speech, and to begin with thier demonstration. The American Nazi party claimed it was to protest against the black gangs. But the American Nazi party is known for being white supremists. A crowd gathered and began to protest the Neo-Nazi's march, which turned violent. It was the crowd that began to throw rocks not only at the protestors but at the police as well. The crowd even torched one of thier neighborhood bars. Cases like these always confuse me. First I do not in anyway condone the Neo-Nazi party or what it stands for. The name nazi automatically sends a sense of hatred and violence with it. But they were not the one who actually started the violence. the crowd also attacked the police who were ensuring the Neo-Nazi's thier right to freedom of speech and the right to gather...but I mean, the Neo Nazis had to know that thier march was going to cause trouble, now if they were truly marching as a protest against black gangs, than I can be more sympathetic towards them, but I can't if they were marching white supremacy. Though I know many people believe me to be racist, I do not believe that whites are ultimately above anyone else. But when the crowd began to destory thier own homes, thier own businesses, I lack sympathy for them to. I do have sympathy for the police who were doing thier job, and for the peaceful inhabitants that shied away fro teh violence, but were scared of not only the Nazi's but of thier neighbors as well. One of my initial thoughts was, of course violence would break out yor letting white supremicsts march in a promdominately black neighborhood of course violence was going to break out. Kevin White (black) who lived in the neighbor hood said, " They let them come here and expect this not to happen?" But isn't that a slightly racist attitude? I mean shouldn't the residents want more than to be the thugs that unemployed, lower income blacks and minorities are portrayed? Its almost that attitude that creates hostitlity towards them. Though they were unhappy with the march, they did not need to be violent. The Nazi's could also have chosen a different area to march in, because chosing the area they did, I think they were hoping violence would break out. The Nazi party, or any other socialist party represent anarchy and chaos. So I condone neither actions taken place, and the only sympathy I am able to give is for the residence such as Louis Ratajski, who fled his home over the bar. This man just wanted to ignore the marchers, and stay out of the violence. I just don't understand how people can destory thier own areas.

*I got my information from CNN, FOX, and CNS...none of the stories were quiet the same, so if any of my information is wrong please let me know

The Protector of Indiana Wesleyan revised

From 1967 until 2004, Dr. Martin taught at Indiana Wesleyan. But Dr. Martin was so much more than a simple professor; he was our protector of our school. He taught from a Biblical Christian perspective and never shied away from his belief in God. In fact the most important item Dr. Martin would stress was the twin constants: the sovereignty of God and the depravity of man. It was from this basis that he taught each individual class from. Though to most he might have come off overly strong and fanatic, but he just understood the importance of time. Dr. Martin understood that there was so much more at stake than just an education, our souls were on the line as well. To many of his students, Dr. Martin might have come across as strict or unreasonable (and in his last two years he unfortunately was do to the many brain tumors). But the truth was, Dr. Martin loved each student he had…well most of them any ways. The wonderful thing about Dr. Martin was the fact he truly believed in what he taught. He not only taught history, but he taught a methodology. He taught away for students to study history from a Biblical Christian perspective. More than any other person I’ve known, Dr. Martin understood the importance of living our lives on Biblical principles and though we are in the world, we are not to be of it. Since Dr. Martin’s death, our school is slowly leaving its Biblical basis and trying to be more of the world. For the junior high purity retreat, the leaders were called PIMPS, and the young girls that attended were called “gaming girls”. Now I know many people would not see this as a big deal, but it’s the little things that slowly build up and they grow into bigger things and then people don’t know what went wrong. Having PIMP leaders and “gaming girls” undermines the whole purpose of a purity retreat; it turns sex into a great big joke. Something like that Dr. Martin would not have stood for, and I wish more students here had spoken up. We are beginning to turn our backs on what separates us from the being a secular university. They start off with little things, but as more and more little things amount our school will no longer stand for what is was intended for. The sad part is I know there are students at IWU that agree with me that the school is heading down a dangerous road, but yet no one wants to take a stand. We just sit idly by and complain. I wish that I had paid more attention when I was in Dr. Martin’s class freshman year, maybe then I wouldn’t have made some of the decisions I have in the last several years. All I know is I am finally taking his words to heart. God is going to be the center of my world…For He is sovereign and I am depraved. I cannot find salvation on my own. It is only through Jesus that I can have eternal life…be truly free. Dr. Martin truly was a faithful servant of God.

Here is a website that has some of Dr. Martin’s work. I have the Microsoft word version if anyone wants that… http://cas.indwes.edu/social_sciences/Docs/BibChristEdDoc.pdf

WAKE UP

In the last year places all over the world have been experiencing devastating natural disasters and man made disasters. It seemed to have started with the Tsunami of Southern Asia. Then came the terrorist attacks in London, followed by Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast, the earthquake in Pakistan, and on a recent less severe rain and flooding in the Northeastern U.S. countless lives have been lost. Though possible, it is highly unlikely that each person was a Christian and had accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. There is a good chance that many of them never had anyone witness about God to them. Now they are facing God’s judgment. How many has He welcomed into His Kingdom? And how many has He turned away saying He never knew them? Though people die everyday, it tends to take events such as these to give us a wake up call. It is time for Christians to come out of hiding, time for us to stand up and start showing God’s love, and teaching His laws. It is times like these remind us about our mortality. It is no longer uncommon for a person to live till hey are in the 70’s and 80’s, sometimes even older. We don’t allow ourselves to think about the possibilities of dying sooner. We don’t like the thought of the young being sick or dying ‘before their time’. Though we know that everyone dies, we tend to have the attitude of “live for today, repent at leisure”. And I more than anyone has been guilty of this. I have struggled with matching my actions with what I believe. I could make up excuses, but it all comes down to me making poor choices. That is why we have a loving, grace giving God. Once I started living my life for God, my past sins become learning points of mistakes to not make again. I can’t say that I won’t stumble again, but I know that if I rely on God then it is less likely to happen. A chapel speaker a few weeks ago said, “If you won’t stand now, then you never will”. At first I just thought he was being a bully, but after reflecting on it, he is correct. The longer Christians stay quiet and don’t speak up, the harder it is going to be. It seems to be an increasing trend to be hostile towards Christians. We are constantly mocked on television, and though everyone make speak ill of Christians but if we use the Bible to show how homosexuality is wrong then we are using hate speech. But even though Christians face resistance, it is not an excuse to sit idly by. The problem today is not just the secular humanists but it’s also the Christian indifference. When Christians do not spread the Word then souls are lost. We as Christians have a responsibility to share the news of Jesus’ birth, death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven. We are God’s tools to tell others of him. When others’ lives are at stake then we cannot afford to sit quietly by as people die without knowing Jesus. The cost is too high and the battle is becoming fiercer. One of Satan’s great tricks is to get you to forget about him. He does not want us be aware of the Spiritual warfare that is going on in every day life around us. We need to keep God as our focus for our every decision and facet of our life.
