WAKE UP
In the last year places all over the world have been experiencing devastating natural disasters and man made disasters. It seemed to have started with the Tsunami of Southern Asia. Then came the terrorist attacks in London, followed by Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast, the earthquake in Pakistan, and on a recent less severe rain and flooding in the Northeastern U.S. countless lives have been lost. Though possible, it is highly unlikely that each person was a Christian and had accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. There is a good chance that many of them never had anyone witness about God to them. Now they are facing God’s judgment. How many has He welcomed into His Kingdom? And how many has He turned away saying He never knew them? Though people die everyday, it tends to take events such as these to give us a wake up call. It is time for Christians to come out of hiding, time for us to stand up and start showing God’s love, and teaching His laws. It is times like these remind us about our mortality. It is no longer uncommon for a person to live till hey are in the 70’s and 80’s, sometimes even older. We don’t allow ourselves to think about the possibilities of dying sooner. We don’t like the thought of the young being sick or dying ‘before their time’. Though we know that everyone dies, we tend to have the attitude of “live for today, repent at leisure”. And I more than anyone has been guilty of this. I have struggled with matching my actions with what I believe. I could make up excuses, but it all comes down to me making poor choices. That is why we have a loving, grace giving God. Once I started living my life for God, my past sins become learning points of mistakes to not make again. I can’t say that I won’t stumble again, but I know that if I rely on God then it is less likely to happen. A chapel speaker a few weeks ago said, “If you won’t stand now, then you never will”. At first I just thought he was being a bully, but after reflecting on it, he is correct. The longer Christians stay quiet and don’t speak up, the harder it is going to be. It seems to be an increasing trend to be hostile towards Christians. We are constantly mocked on television, and though everyone make speak ill of Christians but if we use the Bible to show how homosexuality is wrong then we are using hate speech. But even though Christians face resistance, it is not an excuse to sit idly by. The problem today is not just the secular humanists but it’s also the Christian indifference. When Christians do not spread the Word then souls are lost. We as Christians have a responsibility to share the news of Jesus’ birth, death, resurrection, and ascension into Heaven. We are God’s tools to tell others of him. When others’ lives are at stake then we cannot afford to sit quietly by as people die without knowing Jesus. The cost is too high and the battle is becoming fiercer. One of Satan’s great tricks is to get you to forget about him. He does not want us be aware of the Spiritual warfare that is going on in every day life around us. We need to keep God as our focus for our every decision and facet of our life.
